My research methods class has got me down. I have to present tomorrow, and the more I look at the stuff, the less I feel like I know. I'm exhausted and it's been dark for a few hours. It snowed last night so my world is slushy. But on the upside, I joined Communauto, a car-share, this morning, so now I can take trips to Ikea for Swedish meatballs. I also spoke on the phone with a professor working on some stuff that I'm interested in, and we're going to meet up to chat about stuff in the coming month(s). And Stacy's coming tomorrow for 5 days, so they will hopefully be restful. We're making Thanksgiving at my house and I've invited way too many people than will comfortably fit, but I think it'll be nice.

From Communauto:
1 cup of coffee with cream

From Tim Horton's:
1 medium coffee with cream
1 toasted everything bagel with herb + garlic cream cheese

From Thompson House:
1 ham + Swiss sandwich

From people I've run into at school:
1 cup of earl grey tea with sugar
1 slice of lemon cake

From home:
chili over rice with cheddar and yogurt
1 cup orange pekoe tea with cream and honey
2 bear paw oatmeal cookies
1 nervous breakdown

Sunday Foods. More thai regret.

I woke up this morning and got on the scale. Surprised to have less poundage than last time, I seized the opportunity...
  • 1 latte
  • 1 honeycrisp apple
  • some butternut squash that I made w. spice and olive oil in the oven
  • Tom Kah chicken soup (coconut broth)
  • Tofu Tod (fried tofu and dippin' sauce)
  • Veggie Pad Thai (more grease)
  • Ginger tea w. raw honey
I don't know why upon re-reading the above it doesn't seem like I ate a lot. Maybe it would help to note that the last four items on the list were eaten over the course of probably 15-20 minutes. Maybe less. That was at 330p or so and only now at 8p am I considering having something else.
I have a dark chocolate bar, so maybe I'll have ..
  • 2-3 4 squares of it

Sunday.

2 pieces of whole wheat toast with butter
2 cups of coffee
1 piece whole wheat bread with a chunk of cheddar cheese
3 BBQ ribs, at Bruce's house
2 chocolate covered biscuits
1 orange

A couple of friends are coming buy, so I think we're going to order a pizza/poutine/fried chicken fiesta from Pizza Welat. Maybe I'll update, or maybe I'll be too embarrassed.

3rd post in a row - I'm totally carrying this thing - Saturday foods

  • 1 latte
  • Sweet Thai Delight Yogi Tea w. half and half and raw honey
  • Low fat yogurt w. apple pumpkin preserves
  • 1 slice of cheddar cheese
  • 1.5 slices of gruyere
  • Lots of almonds (15-20? No idea)
Later on I went to Motorino off the Graham stop and had:
  • 1 Bud Light
  • 1/3-1/2 of a tricolor(e?) salad
  • 1 margarita DOC personal pizza
Then went to Harefield Road and had ...
  • 1 Mother's Milk Porter (it said Stout on the board, but the bartender said porter)
Then to Legion and had...
  • 2 more Bud Light(s?)
What an exciting day of food!

A trip to Value Village

This morning I woke up shortly after 7am, unprompted by an alarm. I thought I'd take advantage of my early rise, so I got dressed and biked due East, in the direction of Pie IX, where casse-croute restaurants and thrift stores exist in bountiful harmony. I was tempted to go to my usual breakfast spot out there, called La Quebecoise, but I thought I'd try and expand my casse-croute repertoire, so I opted for someplace new. Now I know to stick with what I'm used to; breakfast was less plentiful and more expensive than my usual smoked meat-and-swiss cheese omlette. Anyway, my haul today was pretty meager. I came away with a pretty nice 3-tier spice rack and a plaid flannel shirt from Value Village, while Renaissance and Sally Am offered not much at all. Maybe next week.

Today in food:

2 eggs 'tourne' (over easy)
2 strips of bacon
2 pieces of white bread toast
2 cups of coffee
1 small portion of feves-au-lard
1 small slice of tomato
1 small piece of leftover trout, atop a portion of leftover couscous from last night

Now I'm making some chili, and the water's on the stove for a cup of hot cocoa. Winter is upon us in spirit, if not in name.

Finishing out the day:
1 large bowl of chili served over whole wheat spaghetti, topped with cheddar cheese + a dollop of mediterranean yogurt
1 small bowl of the same, sans yogurt
the remainder of my farmer's salad from last night
a few slices of cantaloupe
2 small beakers of tea with cream and honey

TGIF Foods - Lara

Okay so it's safe to say that my food intake for the day has pretty much been taken care of with the below - tho I think once I head out later there will be some beers and possibly a chipwich in my future. Full detailed update on that at some point.*
  • 1 latte
  • Gotham salad at BG Men's. I didn't finish it, but I wanted to. Oh yea, and a coffee w. regular milk (they do not have half and half there.).
Meeting leftovers from Chop't consisting of
  • 1/2 wrap that was mexican themed
  • 1/2 wrap that was italian sub themed
  • 1 brownie w. nuts and some sort of cookie/blondie top
I don't know about you, Drew, but this blog really is sensational, if I do say so myself.
And here is a picture of something unrelated, but equally sensational.

*Update: I did not have a chipwich, unfortunately. But I did have just under 2 pints of beer (one pumpkin ale and one victory porter). And I shared an inexpensive but overpriced (for the quantity) cheese plate.

On my first Friday after the first Thursday of my not having to work.

I got fired from my job on Monday. I didn't ask why, and I don't really care. So I've been relaxing and enjoying the mental space to focus on things more important to me than washing dishes. I slept til 10.30am today, after crashing on the couch at some point during the Daily Show last night, and moving to bed around 3am.

For breakfast, from Tim Hortons:
2 slices of 'brown' toast with butter, peanut butter, and raspberry jam
1 medium coffee with a bit of cream
1 small cup of feves au lard (baked beans)
a few carrots dipped in roasted garlic hummus

Then my friend came over for dinner, so I made:
Greek-style farmer's salad, with tomato/green bell pepper/cucumber/feta cheese, seasoned with oregano, red wine vinegar and olive oil
Couscous with toasted almonds, tangerine zest, and cilantro
Honey, dijon, and Bragg's-marinated trout

We had a few hot toddies each, as well, and then I got hungry before bed, as I do every night:
1 whole wheat bagel with melted cheddar cheese
1 bowl of corn flakes with soy milk

Foods Number Deuce - Lara

From Ninth St Espresso....
  • 1 latte
Lunch from Dishes....
  • zinger yogurt smoothie (ginger, low fat vanilla yogurt, ice, mango, banana) - 12 oz.
  • albacore tuna and cheddar grilled zucchini and spicy harissa aioli on a sesame jerusalem bagel.
From Gramstand...
  • japanese ginger tea w. ginger honey
Dinner from Mooncake Foods...
  • 1/2 of a thai iced tea - it was gross - it tasted how I'd imagine my childhood dolls tasting - that weird plastic vanilla taste
  • 1 and a half jicama spring rolls with some sort of delicious sauce - I ate some of the lettuce garnish on the plate too
  • pulled pork w. curry lime sauce sandwich - with coleslaw and other coleslaw looking thing - I left over some of the roll when it got too soggy
At Triple Crown...
  • 3/4 to 7/8 of a Guinness

And this is in response to Drew's mention of hot toddies

Andrew, on the last day of Public Health Ethics class.

I started my day early, at like 6am, so I could prepare in time for my 9am class the three recommendations for a Canadian code of ethics that were are putting together in our last session of the semester. Four different people brought in treats, so I started my day out right: there was Rebekah's home-baked vegan banana bread, Nick's babka loaf from Cheski's kosher bakery in Outremont, and croissants and chocolatines from Le Premiere Moison.

1 cup of home-brewed coffee with cream
1 bowl of generic corn flakes with rice milk and a banana
1 chocolatine (Quebecois for 'pain chocolate')
2 pieces of Rebekah's vegan banana bread
1 small piece of babka
2 bowls of that delicious soup
1 box n0-name Kraft dinner-type mac + cheese with tuna and hot sauce
1 ham and provolone sandwich on multigrain bagel with mayo
2 weak hot toddies
2 (more) bowls of cornflakes

CRUCIAL UPDATE: I DID NOT HAVE ANY MORE C-BOOST!

Official Post #1

I just moved into my very own apartment, so to cut down on costs and to avoid eating so much goddamn fast food like I've done for the past 28 years, I'm trying to shop more at my cute little local market that's small enough to get everything I need in about 10 minutes. That means lots of produce that's pretty cheap and in fairly good condition. I made a stirfry with my friend this week and then made a big pot of soup out of the leftovers, with some additional stuff. Needless to say, here is what I ate today:

1 cup of home-brewed coffee with cream
1 multigrain bagel with cream cheese
1 half cantaloupe
1 ham sandwich with mayo and tomato on a roll (from the kiosk at school)
1 small handful of puffed cheese snack
1 smaller handful of Mexican-flavored Old Dutch potato chips
1 cup of school-brewed coffee with cream
1 small bowl of stirfry leftovers with sriracha (incl. noodles, asparagus, green beans, snap peas, bean sprouts, broccoli, bok choy, fried tofu, cilantro, green onion, jalapeno)
2 bowls of soup, plus whatever was left in the pot after that (same ingredients as above, + chicken and coconut milk, seasoned with curry and cayenne)
1 can of Cott brand racinette (French for 'root beer')
the rest of a bag of pretzel twists
2 Bear Paw oatmeal cookies.

I will probably drink some carbonated mineral water at some point, but that's all for now.

Okay, Lara, your turn.

Testing.

Hi.

My name is Andrew and I have a friend named Lara.

In our somewhat frequent evening instant message conversations, Lara recounts to me what she ate throughout that day. This began somewhere around July 20, 2006. To help her keep better track, I created a blog: http://www.hereiswhatlaraate.blogspot.com/. I decided to call it "Lara Eats!" because it was used to track what Lara ate. Then my gmail account got stolen by a Nigerian scam artist shortly before Christmas 2007. So I lost my old blogger account. I've revived the idea, although I've added Lara as an active blogger in case my new gmail account gets stolen by a Nigerian scam artist sometime around Christmas 2008. In that case, she will be able to keep blogging, and invite my even newer gmail account to join blogger again and begin blogging again.

Needless to say, I hope it will serve as an inspiration to all of you out there who also wish to keep better track of your diet. Come to think of it, I will use it to keep track of my own diet as well (because I don't think I actually did that the first time around).

Sorry Lara, but I make the rules (and you can make them next time a Nigerian scam artist steals my gmail account).

Happy reading, folks!
